As the two sisters move through the space, their relationship gives rise to an evolving sonic environment shaped by proximity, gesture, and shared presence. ¡Otro!, a movement-responsive sonification system developed by Drew Trujillo, listens to location and interaction rather than imposing a fixed score. Sound emerges gradually from the dancers’ movements, allowing emotional nuance and relational tension to be felt through listening rather than explanation.

The work engages folklore not as a distant narrative, but as a living structure shaped by memory, movement, and place. Through embodied interaction, themes of displacement and continuity surface without illustration, inviting reflection on how histories are carried through bodies and relationships. Sonification functions here as a form of acoustemology—an approach to knowing through sound that emphasizes experience, attention, and interconnection over representation.

Rather than separating choreography, technology, and sound into discrete roles, the piece treats them as interdependent elements within a shared system. Meaning unfolds through collaboration, with sound responding to movement as an extension of the dancers’ relationship to one another and to the space they inhabit.
